Conservation

Our objective in conservation is to
keep cherished, older “family” pianos working well

Older pianos may have limitations in pitch stability and mechanical consistency. Sentimental value and budget limitations often make these instruments part of a home. Issues and resolutions include:

  • Structural issues can be often accommodated with tuning to a lower pitch. Unless the piano is to be played with other instruments, or the player has perfect pitch, this is not generally a problem.

  • Loose tuning pins can be tightened by oversized replacements or with shims.

  • Action parts can be exchanged within an instrument  - switching a part from a seldom used working note to a broken “Middle C” will make a world of difference to any piano student!

  • We are happy to schedule a complimentary video consultation with you and your instrument.
